I frequently encounter the question, "how much should my estate plan cost?" It's a valid inquiry, and I want to provide a clear answer. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for every individual or family. Beware of any lawyer who quotes a plan's cost via email or over the phone without a comprehensive discovery process.
The reason many estate plans fail is because families often prioritize price when shopping around, leading them to adopt a traditional plan consisting of documents that prove ineffective when actually needed.
If you're interested in exploring this further, you can read my article on "how shopping around for an estate plan could leave your family with an unexpected, expensive, uninvited mess."
Here's what I can guarantee you:
I've priced my estate planning services for you and your family at the intersection of affordability and effectiveness. My process begins with a Family Wealth Planning Sessionâ„¢, designed to enhance and organize your financial situation significantly. This ensures that none of your hard-earned assets will be lost to the Florida Department of Financial Services / Unclaimed Property Division in the event of something happening to you.
Even if you don't proceed with planning, the Family Wealth Planning Session alone is valuable as it helps you create a comprehensive inventory of your assets and ensures your family is aware of what you possess.
During our meeting, I'll review all your assets and discuss your loved ones. You'll gain a clear understanding of what would happen to everything you own and everyone you love in the event of your death or incapacity.
If you lack a plan, I'll cover the plan the State has mader for you. If you already have a plan, I'll conduct an estate plan review and check-up. If you're dissatisfied with your current plan, we'll work together to identify the most effective, efficient, and affordable way to achieve your goals.
The crucial aspect to understand is that you'll be making informed and now educated decisions for your loved ones, not merely shopping around based on price. As part of the process, you'll choose your fee based on your budget and the planning options that matter most to you and your family.
Now, in terms of cost:
- A Family Wealth Planning Session is $750.
- An Estate Plan Review and Checkup is $950. These fees apply if you come in without prior preparation.
If you'd like to save time and money, you can prepare in advance by filling out an family and asset inventory.
For a comprehensive plan (or update of your existing plan), my three levels of planning range between $2,000 and $8,000 for a married couple, depending on your choices during the Family Wealth Planning Session. Single planning is appropriately discounted.
If you're ready to make informed decisions for your loved ones and avoid simply opting for the cheapest plan, start by booking your Family Wealth Planning Session (or Estate Plan Review and Check-up) Call or text me at 305.831.1104 or make a 15 minute appointment with me and I can provide more details.
